In Norse mythology, Skaði is a jötunn and goddess of archery, skiing, winter, and mountains. She is also known for challenging the gods of Asgard after the killing of her father, Thiazi. Skaði took up arms and armor and demanded compensation from the gods. The Vegvísir, or Norse compass, is an Icelandic magical stave, which, according to the Huld manuscript, protects one from losing their way in bad weather.
